Safeguarding Adults
Safeguarding Adults, endorsed by the Police Crime Prevention Initiative, provides the key information needed to help safeguard vulnerable adults.
Most adults live normal happy lives. However, for a number of unfortunate people, abuse is a reality, and the effects can result in great unhappiness, suffering, and in some cases, tragedy. In reality, only a small number of people set out to abuse, and it should be understood that some abuse may be through neglect rather than by a deliberate act. However, it is still abuse and if you suspect that a person is abusing or being abused, your responsibility is to prevent it.
The first module covers Understanding the Basics. From what an ‘adult at risk’ is and who may be at risk of abuse. It will introduce the different forms of adult abuse and the effects of abuse.
In the second module, Recognising Adult Abuse, covers the types of people who may abuse. It explores why they may abuse and the situations in which it could occur, how to recognise adult abuse and importantly how you should respond if someone confides abuse to you.
Reporting Abuse, the third and final module, asks you as the learner to reflect on what action you should take if you suspect abuse. How to record your concerns and the reporting process. It also encompasses safer recruitment, good practice guidelines, and organisational and individual responsibilities including a personal code of conduct.
