We asked Michael Kewley, Director of Marketing & Stakeholder Relations at the International School of Geneva (Ecolint) how their schools use EduCare.
Would you give me a quick overview of your school?
Ecolint is the world's oldest international school. Founded in 1924 in Geneva, Switzerland, we have around 4400 students aged 3-18, representing 140 nationalities and 80 mother tongues, spread across three campuses in the Geneva area. They are supported by around 1300 staff.
Can you describe your role in the school?
I am the Director of Marketing & Stakeholder Relations, responsible for all internal and external communications and relationships with the various stakeholder groups (local government, the United Nations (around 40% of our children come from UN or UN-related families), employers, parents, relocation agents etc).
Did our service replace a similar tool or is this the first time your team is using a service like this?
Various members of staff did child protection training in different places and in different ways, but this was the first time we put in place a systematic training system that we expect all staff to complete.
How did you hear about EduCare?
One of our School Principals was a member of a CIS taskforce on Child Protection, and she had heard of EduCare and made the recommendation for us to look into it.
Would you describe a few of the reasons you decided to buy our service?
The EduCare platform was simple and intuitive, the training covered the key topics, and the different levels available meant we could find suitable training content for different roles, both on Child Protection and other subjects. The online learning approach also made the logistics of training such a large number of staff much easier than trying to do this in a face-to-face setting, and also gave staff flexibility as to when they chose to carry out the training. The overall value for money was also appealing.
Is there an alternative to EduCare in your country?
Not really, especially not in English.
How long have you been using our service?
Three years.
What was the most obvious advantage you felt EduCare offered during the sales process?
The online learning which meant users could learn when they wanted to, at their own pace, and check their understanding as they went, with a certification at the end which we could keep on file.
Were there any other advantages you discovered after using EduCare more regularly?
The additional subject areas such as first aid were not something we originally had in scope, but were a nice bonus.
Who from your company was involved in implementing EduCare?
The process was led by our HR department, with strong sponsorship from our Director General and Child Protection lead, who was one of our School Principals at the time.
What have people been saying about our product since they've started using it?
Generally, people seem fairly satisfied, and the adoption rate has been good. There were some questions about the very UK-focused content, given we are an international school operating in Switzerland, and at first the training was not available in French for our francophone colleagues, but this has now been resolved, and folks have come to understand that best practice Child Protection approaches are similar the world over, even if certain details (e.g. DBS checks) differ from country to country.
